Where to Find A Fresh Organic Turkey

Home/Kitchen/Where to Find A Fresh Organic Turkey

local-harvest-550A favorite website for finding Organic and Natural produce and meats in your area is Local Harvest, a national site that aggregates Organic and Natural farms across the US. A 25 pound fresh Organic Turkey was found for Thanksgiving from a local farm in Upstate New York (30 minutes from our Turkey Day spot in the Finger Lakes). For the weak stomachs, do not read this: Our Turkey friend is out for slaughter this weekend and available for pick-up on Tuesday – in time for a 24 hour Organic brining (recipe to come shortly). Everyone is in for a Turkey day treat at my house!

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Research and register for a CSA near you. This is becoming an increasingly popular way to buy fresh seasonal meat and produce directly from a local farmer.

Local Events Calendar. Search for events near you by zip code. This is a useful tool when traveling to find local harvest events or a farm-to-table dinner. Use the calendar to find festivals, tours, workshops, field days, courses, and other kinds of food and farming related events in your area.

Shop On-Line. This site is also a great resource for shopping Organic produce and meats on-line. I haven’t used this feature yet but intend to try it for Organic cranberries.

Farmers Markets. This is one of my favorite tools for finding local farmers markets when traveling in an unfamiliar city. Local Harvest also identifies if the market is Certified Organic.
